De Presencias (2008)
I
Este será mi último intento.
La historia de Rogelio
(lo llamaré así, para hablar cómodamente
de un tiempo agazapado en la culpa,
mezcla entre un pasado y un presente
desastrosos),
transcurre en el interior de un vaso con vino.
El hecho de beberlo acortó distancias,
inventó gestos, destruyó
la buena voluntad
de los domingos en la plaza.
Con un lenguaje de caballos desbocados
habla sin tregua.
II
Lo conocí mientras repartía volantes
de un partido político.
Salimos un par de veces.
Cuando su cuerpo sobre el mío
fue bocanada de agua ardiente,
entendí que la pesadilla es un viaje sin escalas.
Sus hijos, con ojos de hambre,
esperaban en la habitación contigua.
III
Para el amor siempre habrá un regreso.
¿Tú qué dices?
Recuperaré las mañanas sobrias, el trabajo,
el amor de mis hijos.
Ha llegado la hora del arrepentimiento.
Al día siguiente lo encontré,
apretando con manos fuertes el último trago.
Era un esqueleto sin dientes,
con la orina creciéndole hacia abajo.

Rogelio’s story
(I’m calling him that way to speak comfortably
from a time shadowed from guilt:
a disastrous past and present mixture)
befalls in the interior of a glass of liqueur.
Drinking it created distances,
it invented gestures,
it destroyed the good will
of sundays at the plaza.
With the language of outrageous horses,
he spoked without lull.
II
I met him handing out flyers
for a politic party.
We went out a couple times.
When his body topped mine
and felt like a shot of schnapps,
I realized the terror was a never-ending ride.
His children, with hunger eyes,
were waiting in the room aside.
III
For love there’s always a comeback.
What are you saying?
I’m reclaiming sober mornings,
work, my children’s love.
Has come the time of regretting.
I found him on the morrow,
his strong hands clinging to the final drink.
He turned a toothless skeleton
Soaking on pee.
